!Petty Papers Vol 7 #2 pg 15
1910 Census Garner, Johnston Oklahoma, Stonewall Jackson Petty entry says he was 38 and born in Ark. his Father born in TN, his mother born in TN.
Taped interview between grandsons of Lewis L. Petty and Bathseheba Petty, " Quit claim deed. Know all men by these presents that I Bathsheba Petty, widow of Lewis L Petty, deceased, for in consideration of the sum of $100. to me paid by S. J. Petty also known as Stonewall Jackson (and Uncle Jack) do herby grant and sell and quit claim to the said S.J. petty and heris and assignees for ever the following lands lying in the county of Sevier." Followed by a discription of the land. signe 25 Jan 1919."

Same interview they had just found out what Lewis Ledbetter Petty's middle name was,-Ledbetter. "

Bathsheba was supposed to be part Indian. They didn't know for sure which tribe. Possibly Choctaw or Cherokee. She wouldn't talk about it and didn't want anyone else to know.

Bathsheba Smith Petty wife of Lewis Ledbetter Petty had a small store along Mill Creek. She applied for a small Post Office, I have the papers on it. It had to have a name so it was named Petty Arkansas. She was the Post Mistress for a while, then it had to be moved. Somewhere along the way another was Post Master, and then she had it again. Not sure what year the Post office was discontinued. When the DeQueen Lake Dam was built the town of Petty was covered by the lake. The place was at the north end of the lake along where Mill Creek entered the Lake. If you stand on the bridge of Bella Mine Road, and face north that is where the town was. I don't think it was more than a few houses or buildings. Here is the link to the 1895 map that shows Petty.
