John James Petty-58089

Here is a request for help. Another one who went to Texas.

I believe I have the book Lauder and Lauder which may help) The writer is Judith Freund
I have just found information on my gg-grandparents (both of whom descend from Petty lines). I am wondering if you might like it for your files.

Secondly, I am stumped with where to put my gg-grandfather (James A Petty) into the Petty line and would appreciate your insight. I try to use the census files on Ancesty.com, which has helped, but I am stuck.

My g-grandmother was Mary (Mollie) M Petty, b Sept 1870 in Texas. I believe she is the same Mary M Petty, daughter of the Rev James A(braham) Petty and Mary Elizabeth Loudder. I do have a Texas Death Certificate for a Mollie M Petty, dau of Jas A Petty and M E Louder, which I ordered and received last week when I was in Texas. She died 11 July 1917, in Crosby Co., Texas. She was married to Lorenzo Matthew Reed. Her death date matched the death date in my grandmother’s Bible. Her birth date, according to the death certificate, was 22 Sept 1869, but I believe it’s really 1870 as she’s not on the 1870 census.

I have found several websites that have information on Mary Elizabeth Loudder and her parents John Loudder and Mary Elizabeth Petty (dau of James V Petty b abt 1800 TN). But no one seems to know anything about James A Petty, b 1842 AL who married Mary Elizabeth Loudder in Texas.

I think James A Petty is descended from John James Petty, b abt 1812 South Carolina and Nancy Unknown. I have several bits of census information but I went backwards from 1900, so my logic may not be correct.

Reply from John Petty -

To identify this James A. Petty, you may also want to check the 1850 Sub Div. #53, Marshall County, Tennessee census. Page 5b, Ancestry Image #10. Families # 76-Hugh McAdams, and # 78 George Leopard. There are Petty children listed in these households, who I believe are orphaned children of the families of Pettys and Bagleys, of that area. Bobby Prosser, also may be able to help on this.
