Edward Petty , pioneer son of this area, and a life honorary member fo the Lane county Historical Society, passed away at Cottage Grove hospital, Sat. Dec 19, at the age of 82.
He was born dec 12, 1877 on the Petty homestead South/east of Cresswell and lived and farmed a portion of the acreage most of his life. He was the son of George Petty, who crossed the plains with a wagon train in 1853 with his Mother, Melinda (Eaton) Petty. Mr Petty and and Lilly Scherler were married January 26, 1907 in Eugene, and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary two years ago.
He is survived by the Widow; two sons, Wilbur of Seattle Washington; and Wayne of Corning, California. A sister, Mrs Ethel Zimmeman of Eugene, (OR) ; a brother Riley Petty of Creswell, and two grandsons, Edward and Webb Petty of Corning, Calif.
Funeral services were conducted at the Schwering and England Chapel of Creswell, Tues. Dec. 22 with internment in the Petty plot at the Lower Cemetery.

Lily Jane Petty
CORNING --- Mrs. Lily Jane Petty, 82, a former lifelong resident of Creswell,
Ore., died late Saturday in Corning Memorial Hospital. She became ill Friday
at her Elizabeth Ave., apartment and was taken by ambulance to the hospital
where her condition worsened.
She had move to Corning six weeks ago to be near her son, Wayne Petty.
A native of Bear Creek, near Creswell, she was born January 19, 1889. She
was the daughter of John and Mary Wintsenreed Scherler, who had settled
there after coming over from Switzerland. She was the widow of Edward
Petty whose death occurred in 1960. She was a member of the Jehovah's
Witnesses in Creswell.
Surviving are two sons, Wayne of Corning, and Wilbur, Seattle, Washington;
six sisters, Helen Parley, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Eliza Kneff, Hilda Thompson
and Anna Goheen, all of Creswell, Gladys Circle, Tillamook, Ore., and Margaret
Woods, Beaver, Ore.; a brother, Fred Scherler, Creswell; two grandsons, Edward
Petty, San Francisco and Webb Petty of Corning, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Hall Brothers Chapel between the hours of 7-9 p.m., today.
The body will then be taken to Creswell where funeral services will be held at
10 a.m. Wednesday at the Schwering and England Mortuary. Burial will be in
the family plot in the Bear Creek Cemetery there.
