1. Isham M. and Mary “Polly” Petty appear on the 1850 census as farmers in Henry County. In 1860 they appear on the Montgomery County Census with their children Sarah, William Davis, Mary and Matilda and 90yo Rebecca Evans.
2. Civil War records reflect Isham as joining the 36th VA Infantry CSA-at 39 yo. There are various CSA records for the same man listing him as Isham M, Isom M, Isam M. and Isaac M. Prisoner of war records at Camp Chase Ohio and Wheeling, VA show Isam M. Petty being captured at Peppers Ferry. The same page also shows John Petty being captured at Floyds Mountain.
3. The family (Isham M. ) does not appear on the 1870 Census-but I found a death record for the daughter, Mary, at age 16 in 1870 in Pulaski County-died of measles.
4. In 1880 census, the family is in Smyth County. Isom & Mary have a farm on Seven Mile Ford. His son, William Davis Petty has married Nancy Moore-these are my great grandparents. Mary Petty is now dead of measles, but daughters Matilda, Sara, and a daughter Corilla (never appears anywhere again--16 yo) are in the household along with a grand-daughter Mary Ellen Petty b. 1878-daughter of Matilda Ref: John Petty
