Thanks Frank Hunter for this outstanding dissertation on the ancestors of
John Bedford Robertson, my father's (Albert Harney Manning, b. 1908 in
Kuttawa, KY) brother-in-law. John (everyone called him Bedford) Robertson's
wife was Anna Mae (nee Wilson) Robertson, my father's half-sister. They had
the same mother, but different fathers...her father was George Henry Wilson.Here is some detailed genealogy info on my half-aunt Anna Mae (Wilson)
Robertson and half-uncle John Bedford Robertson. The information I have is
that Anna Mae and my father Albert Harney Manning were half-sister and
half-brother, with the same mother: Nellie Maria (nee Petty) but different
fathers. My grandmother Nellie Maria Petty, b. 12/18/1878 in KY first
married George Henry Wilson ("a rich Irishman from Dublin, Ireland") on
1/5/1899 and had only one child Anna Mae Wilson. George and Nellie parted
their ways...he back to Ireland, and she remarried to my grandfather William
Allen Manning, b. 10/18/1872 in Stewart Co., TN. This union also brought
one child, my father, Albert Harney Manning, b. 9/16/1908 in Kuttawa, Lyon
Co., KY. They too, parted their ways, leaving my father in limbo, because
Nellie remarried a third time to ______? Alphus, "a German professor." This
union ended in the death of grandmother Nellie in childbirth: her third
child: Nellie M. Alphus, b. 1/7/1918 and d. 3/21/1918. For some reason, my
grandfather did not raise my father, and he was taken into the Robertson
household of his half-sister Anna Mae (Wilson) Robertson and her husband,
John Bedford Robertson...initially, into the household of John Bedford
Robertson's parents: Joseph and Florence Robertson in Lyon Co., TN.When John Bedford and Anna Mae moved to Coalinga, CA (Fresno Co.) in the
early 1930s to find work in the oilfields, they took with them my father as
"a son". They had their children: Louise (living in Cambria, CA), Leon
(died in WW II), Kenneth (died in Korea conflict), Eugene (died in a car
accident), and Richard (living in Idaho), and initially told them that my
father was their "brother."Richard Robertson in Idaho...is the only Robertson surname branch from the
John Bedford Robertson trunk. Bedford and Ann Robertson were staunch Church
of Christ members in CA. Was there a COC church in Eddyville, Kuttawa, or
elsewhere nearby? I noticed our Robertson clan associated with Mt. Zion
Baptist Church (cemetery). I hope to visit Lyon Co. and Stewart Co., TN
