Charlotte Petty-50593

Charlotte's family in Bastrop County 1860.
1860-1870
Appears on census of Burnet County Texas.
The Civil War period saw emphasied activity on the part of indian raiders, and a wave of lawlessness that accumpanied and followed the war. As early as 1861, some of the men of the county had organized into ranger forces to protect their homes and the homes of their neighbors from raids. Jordan was a member of the Ridge Company of Infantry (militia) under the leadership,Captain A.J. Ridge. Organized October 1861. Later he was in Company Three under Captain G.C. Bettie, organized January 1864.
Ref. Ranger Muster Rolls, Lone Star Guards, Texas Archives, Austin Texas, and in the History of Burnet County by M.G. Bowden.
1875
Purchased 160 acres along the east bank of the Colorado River near McAnnely's Bend. This land,a part of the William Hargrove 640 acre headright was purchased from the heirs John Giddings for the sum of $42.00. Deed states that Jordan Wyatt had been living on this land for "many years". Burnet Co. records, bk J page 110.
Farming and ranching was the main way of living in that area and Jordan was primarily a farmer, but he did run a few cattle under the brand WY. It was on this farm that Jordan and Charlotte raised 5 boys and 2 girls:
William Bell Wyatt,b 1851
Andrew Jackson Wyatt,b 1853
Isom R. Wyatt, b 1856
Susannah Wyatt b 1859
Mary Charoltte Wyatt, b 1860
Jordan Wyatt,III, b 1866
Marcus Wyatt, b 1869
Across the river and a little downstream of the WYATT farm was the town of "old" Bluffton, destined to be moved to a new townsite to make room for Buchanan Lake in 1936, was at this time in history a thriving little community. A hotel, cafe, feed store, grist mill, and a ferry operation was among its establishments. It also boasted quite a saloon and cowboys "shooting up" the town was not uncommon. (see history of Bluffton) Many of the pioneers of Bluffton have decendents remaining in the area today. Among them are the HERRIDGE's, a family allied with the Wyatts by marriage.

Pg. 29A - Feb., 1783

WILLIAM PETTY Sr.. appointed guardian to LEVINA DILLARD, orphan of WILLIAM DILLARD, dec'd, he giving JAMES PETTY security.

Along with John and Ozburn, other Dillard males documented as having resided in Chatham County between 1773 and 1790 were a second William, Elisha, and Willis, all possible sons of the elder William Dillard and Zachariah who came to Chatham County from Halifax County, NC after 1783. All of the above moved to Middle Tennessee between 1793 and 1810 and settled in the Sumner, Smith and Wilson County area.

At the August term, 1774, the record shows that it was ordered: That William Dillard be allowed one pound and five shillings for making a clerk’s table and chair for the King’s Attorney.

Note: Thomas, the elder's, son William moved to Chatham County, North Carolina around 1772. Land sale records, discovered by Dorothy Dillard Hughes, indicate that this William Dillard sold the land inherited from his father Thomas Dillard, the elder, to his brother, Thomas of Spotsylvania County, Virginia on Nov. 17 1781.
