Note from a researcher: Wm Thornton Petty marrie Abigail Bayles, daughter of Hezekiah Bayles/Bayless, and he is listed in Hezakiah's estate settlement. Abigail lived with her father in 1834 (letter) and was in Madison Co., in 1840 as the head of a household. She was burried in Lamar County, Texas. She had the names of her children because of a letter she wrote to her sister Sarah. Abigail was a sister to this researcher's ancestor.
"John Petty was convicted of Grand Larceny at the April 1836 term of court of Franklin Co., TN sentensed to 4 years, entered the prison May 6, 1836 . He is 5"7" hight, stout, in good form 152 lbs, light hair. grey eyes , common complexion, good countenance , deep in the head, under teeth jut out, small mouth , cluster of scars on wrist of right hand, mole in center of ches, both forefingers curb considerably towards the other fingers, scar on left hand 3/4 " long and cloudy appearance. He was born in Franklin Co, TN and raised by his grandfather Petty who resides within one mile of Coldwells Bridge on the road leading from McMinville to bellfonte, 31 miles from the former. His wife lives with Mr. Long in the same neighborhood. She was of the name Hedgecock. Her mother lives in Lincoln County 1 1/2 mile from lynchburg and is married to Jonathan Armstrong who lives on the waters of Black Warrior. Barb McGee: If he lived with his grandfather who lived in the neighborhood, he can't be a son of the Rev. William Petty who died in Clark County, Kentucky.
