great granddaughter, Stacy. I barely remember him, I was about seven
or eight when he died. I had just graduated from college when Myrtle
"Ma" Payne died. I remember that the funeral was in Stanton in Martin
County, and that we went to Colorado City for the burial. I used to
talk to my grandfather, Leo Harold Payne, son of Claude and Myrtle,
about his days in Mississippi and when they moved to the Red River
area of Texas. I will see what I can find out. A few years ago, my
great uncle, Johnny Mack Payne, my grandfather's brother (who died
unexpectedly in January 2001 of a heart attack), took a trip to the
South, stopping in Tupelo, Mississippi maybe fifteen years ago. He and
his wife, Mary (died in 1993), apparently visited several Paynes, all
related to Mac Payne. I would love to learn more about the Paynes
myself. I will do all that I can to learn more and will send stuff
your way.

Anniebell. 1910 census Itawamba County Mississippi, taken 25 April
