7 Mar 1775 The will of William Russell wherein he leaves, Anna, the use and benefit of the plantation she "now live on with thirty acres of wood land with the labour of my negroe fellow Dick". He also leaves to his son, William, one shilling sterling, his daughter, Anne Light, one shilling sterling, his daughter, Sarah Walters, one shilling sterling, his daughter, Lucreasy Dodson, one shilling sterling, his son, Buckner Russel, one shilling sterling, his daughter, Elisabeth Russell, fifteen pounds, his daughter, Judith Bennett, one shilling sterling, and to his two sons, George and Absalom Russell, "also the land I am possessed of to be equally divided between them, my said sons reserving to my wife the plantation with the thirty acres wood land during her widowhood...her death or marriage...". He appointed his wife, Anne, and his son, George, executris and executor of his estate. The will was witnessed by John Pulliam, Mary Watkins and Micajah Watkins. William Russell was living in Halifax Co., VA, at the time he wrote his will. 18 Sep 1787 James Wilson sold Buckner Russell 100 acres S fork Cub Creek. (Deed Book C-1, Wilkes Co., NC, Russell Register, Page 338) 13 Nov 1793 Thomas Goforth sold to Buckner Russell 51 acres on Cub Creek. (Deed Book B-1, P. 384, 385, Wilkes Co., NC, Russell Register, Page 338) 9 Mar 1798 Buckner Russell witnessed a deed for land on Cub Creek. (Deed book D, Page 350, Wilkes Co., NC, Russell Register, Page 338) 22 Oct 1798 Buckner Russell relinquished his claim in the 51 acres to James Welborn & Montford Stokes. This was part of the tract known as the Moravian tract that these two men had inherited as husbands of the daughters of Hugh Montgomery. People had come in and been issued a deed for the land but, in the great court action concerning the land, the individuals had to relinquish thier titles. This 51 acres was to have been sold by James Wilkes to Joseph Russell and from Joseph russell to Buckner Russell but no deeds show this transfer of land. (Deed Book, Page 335-336, Wilkes Co., NC, Russell Register, Page 338) 15 Jan 1835 Buckner served in the Revolutionary War in North Carolina line. He lived in Surry Co., NC at the time of his enlistment. He applied for a pension on 15 January 1834 in Weakly County, Tennessee, age 83. (Abstracts of Rev.
