Notes for Albert Ray Petty and Luida Nela Harris (by Martha Tarkington- her grandparents);

Albert and Nela Petty lived in Hickman County, TN District #6 most of their lives, except for a few years. About or before 1927, they moved to Obion Co., Tennessee, living where the baby child- Sarah Rogers, now lives, located coming out near Clayton, TN. They moved back to Hickman County, Tennessee about 1940, and lived there until their house burned to the ground in about 1945. They moved back to Obion County, living with their daughter and her family, Jesker and Markus Fowlkes, (my parents), until a house near where they lived was remodeled. Then they moved back to near the same location, where they owned a small farm.
This farm was about a mile off Hwy 49, near Graham, Tennessee. To get to the house, you crossed a creek seven times. About 1958, they moved out near the highway, within a mile of the Petty Cemetery. This house was at one time one (not long before they moved there), used by bank robbers, who had robbed one of the branches of a Nashville Tennessee bank. They held up there for about two weeks before being caught. The money was never found. Some people believe the money was hid up the ‘hollow road’ going to my grandparents place. To my knowledge the money was never found. Louise, their daughter died in this house.
They moved to what is old Graham, Tennessee, (-beside the old store building)-they bought this place. Each of them died while living there. Their son Ray, was living there as of this writing.
I remember my grandparents as having grey hair. All the children, except Louise, Walton, Carmon and Sarah, had black hair and brown eyes. These children had dandy-red hair, and brown eyes. I can’t say what color their eyes were. (Sent to Barb McGee in 1989)
