Stephen Petty-18583

1860 Census 2nd Dist Cheokee Co., Alabama census : Stephen Petty is listed at the bottom of James Swain Newbery family, and Nancy and all children are listed on the 1860 Tippah Count,y. Ripley P.O. Miss Census.

1850 Census of Cherokee County, Alabama.

I'm helping with research on the PETTY line. We are looking at Stephen and Nancy May born in George, and having children in Georgia, Alabama. We found Stephen, with wife Nancy and children, in the 1850 census in Cherokee County, Alabama and then Nancy is alone with the children in 1860 census in Tippah County Mississippi. Stephen is still back in Cherokee living with the James NEWBERRY family. Right age and birthplace. It looks like he stayed in Alabama while the family moved to Mississippi. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy. I'd really like to know the story behind this one.

I see some people list him as deceased since he's not with the family in 1860 but I'm sure he's living in 1860 in Cherokee County, Alabama. Nancy is also listed as dying after 1870 and before 1880. She is living in 1880 in Lee County, Mississippi with her daughter Martha PETTY EPPERSON.
