OBITUARY OF WILLIAM E "BILL" SCALLORN
As published in the Dallas Morning News, June 14, 2001.
Scallorn William Edward "Bill", age 81, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in Rowlett, TX. Bill was born April 6, 1920, in Upton, TX, the last of 8 children of Robert Lee and Mary Ella (McDonald) Scallorn. He was a great-grandson of several prominent early Texas settlers, including Stephen Scallorn (1787-1887) and Captain Elijah Petty, CSA (1828-1884).
A 1937 graduate of Smithville High School, Bill joined the Army-Air Corp in World War II to serve his country.
After World War II he resided in Austin, TX, where he met and married Catherine "Kitty" Elizabeth Crowder on February 1, 1947. Bill's career moved him from Austin to many locations in the United States over the first 20 years of their marriage before settling in the Dallas area.
In his work and his personal life Bill exemplified integrity, high ethical and moral values, and was a peace-loving individual. Bill was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection Episcopal in Dallas. He worked part-time at the church maintaining the buildings and working with contractors. This was truly a labor of love, as Bill loved working with all the loving and caring members of the church. They were his life and he loved them dearly.
Bill is survived by his children: Janice Linda Scallorn Barnes of Dallas, TX, William E. Scallorn II of El Paso, TX, Ruth M. Scallorn Mitchell & husband Charles of Mesquite, TX and Robert E. Scallorn of Rowlett, TX; 5 grandchildren: Tiffany Scallorn, Tyler Scallorn, Pamela Mitchell, Chad Mitchell, and Elizabeth Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by Catherine, his wife of 52 years on July 19, 1999.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with Rev. E. V. Eapen and Deacon Gordon Frederick officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Resurrection Episcopal Church, 11540 Ferguson Road, Dallas, TX 75228 (972-279-6501) in order to assist in the rebuilding of their sanctuary after an arson fire earlier this year.
