OBITUARY OF DAISY RUTH SCALLORN TAYLOR

Daisy Ruth Scallorn Taylor, age 87, passed away in Austin, Texas on Tuesday, June 5, 2001.
She was born on September 21, 1913, in Upton, Texas, the sixth of eight children of Robert Lee Scallorn and Mary Ella (nee McDonald) Scallorn. She was a great-granddaugher of several prominent early Texas settlers, including Stephen Scallorn (1787-1887) and Elijah Petty (1828-1864).
A graduate of Smithville High School, she attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College and married Frank Duncan Taylor, who passed away in 1984.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Marcos and volunteered more than 3500 hours in the San Marcos local area hospitals.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Duncan Taylor; her son-in-law Major Thomas A. Webb, Jr.; and her granddaughter, Debbie Suzanne Webb.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Webb of Austin, Texas; her grand-daughter, Sherri Webb Schugart and husband, Charles F. Schugart; great grandchildren, Charles Jr., Kellen, and Alison Schugart, all of Kingwood, Texas, her brother William Scallorn of Rowlett, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted by the Reverend David Barker at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas, with burial services immediately afterward at the Upton Church of Christ Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Donald W. Scallorn, F. Charles Scallorn, Richard E. Scallorn, J.R. Scallorn II, Richard A. Wells, and William Michael Wells.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2001, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 7, 2001, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home, 104 Olive Street, Smithville, Texas, 512-237-2425.Cemetery: Upton Church of Christ Cemetery: Upton, Bastrop, Texas

WELLS MURRIE SCALLORN passed away in Flower Mound, Texas on Thursday, May 24, 2001. She was 84 years old. She was born on November 22 1918 in Upton, Texas, the seventh of eight children of Robert Lee Scallorn and Mary Ella (nee McDonald) Scallorn. She was a great-granddaughter of several prominent early Texas settlers, including Stephen Scallorn (1787-1887) and Captain Elijah Petty, CSA (1828-1884).
A 1933 graduate of Smithville High School, she married Odell A. Wells of Red Rock, Texas on September 7, 1940. Murrie, Odell and their two children resided for many years in Austin and San Marcos, Texas, and Carlsbad and Artesia, New Mexico.
After Odell's death in 1973, Murrie was employed by the Internal Revenue Service of Austin until her retirement in 1984. she was a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ, with memberships for many years at the First Christian Church of San Marcos and the Hyde Park Christian Church of Austin.
She is survived by her children, Richard A. Wells of Mason, Texas and Wm. Michael Wells of Coppell, Texas; a sister, Daisy Taylor of San Marcos; a brother, William Scallorn of Rowlett, Texas: five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Marian Fielder at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) at the Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas, with burial services immediately afterward at the Upton Church of Christ cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews Donald W. Scallorn, F. Charles Scallorn, Richard E. Scallorn and J. R. Scallorn II, and grandsons Robert M. Wells and Nicholas Taylor Wells.
