in Union Co. until moving to Spartenburg Co. in the 1830's. John Tapley
was listed in the 1800 census of Chester Country, SX as Tapley Patty. He
was listed in the 1820 census of Union Co. as John T. Patty. The Patty
family is common in Union Co., SC and the census taker may have been
confused. John has been positively identified as the son of John and
Mary of Chatham Co., NC"
