George R. Petty & Mary Herron left Henry County, TN for TX sometime between 1850 and 1860 census. They are found in Bell Co., TX in 1860,70, 80, and 1900 federal census records. George died 6 May 1901 in Bell County, TX. No cemetery marker found. Mary died 20 June 1920 in Winters, Runnells Co.,TX. George R. Petty stated, " His son, SamPetty was his grandfather, and he entertained 'me' when I was a pre-schooler with Indian Stories and related tht his father, George R. Petty served in the CSA. Mary's application for Texas CSA veterans pension confirms this service. .

Buried Sunny Point Cemetary, Hopkins Co.,Texas . Sarah Jane Petty and James "Jim"Bowden settled next to David Stanley Petty and Grissy Meandriss Petty on Turkey Creek on the Hopkins-Hunt county line south of Cumby, Texas. The Bowden's pioneer log house was on the hunt county side, while the Petty log house was on the Hopkins county side. James Calvin "Cal" had first owned the Petty log house, but sold it to David Stanley in 1882 after he moves to Brown County, Texas. Martha Jane Petty McDonald was named after this aunt and her aunt Martha Elizabeth Petty.
