+2. Mary Saunders/Sanders 5-5-1816 Morgan Co GAFrom Research by R.S Sanders and presented to Barb from Sharolyn Petty Wood:
John was married twice, perhaps 3 times. His surviving widow was Martha Sanders. He was a soldier in the American Revolution. He served from Pittsboro Dist. N.Carolina. He remembered serving under both Captains Clark and Ghoson. He recalled being in the Battles of Cane Creek, North Carolina and Lindley's Mill in 1781. John had twelve children, and when he died all except three, James, Steven and Elizabeth lived in another state. Not having exact birthdates, we are presuming that Stephen was the oldest son, (which was the custom at that time.) Stephen lived in North Carolina, and administered his father's estate. The Archives of Chatham County show that he made petition to be allowed to sell some property of his father, John Petty, who died intestate. He said that "he, the petitioner, and Martha Sanders his father's widow, with the following named children and grandchildren, were tenants in common, petitioning that the absent children be notified and publication to be made in the Raleight Register." The names of he absent children were:
1. James Petty 2. Thomas Petty 3. William Petty 4. Joseph Petty 5. Ambrose Petty 6. Tapley Petty 7. Jesse Petty 8. Elizabeth Petty wife of Elijah Sorrell 9. Nancy Petty, wife of Henry Pickard (in 1837) she was married to Thomas Grisham, on 29th of June 1802. Ambrose Petty, Bondsmen. The grandchildren named were:
Jesse,
James,
Elizabeth and William Mainer-children of Polly Petty Mainor deceased.
All of whom resided out of state except your petitioner, Stephen Petty, James Petty, and Elizabeth Sorrell and her husband Elijah.
