The "J" is his name stood for Joseph. However, according to his twin brother and a sister, he did not like the name Joseph and would not acknowledge it. When Roy and his twin brother were born, Ray was given his father's first name "Willard" as middle name while Roy (being the first born twin) was given his father's middle name as his middle name. There were no birth certificates made out at the time of their birth. Instead, delayed birth certificates were made out later. Roy was listed as Roy J Hanberg at that time.
