2Obituary, Hickman County News-Herald Centreville, Tennessee - Thursday, March 10, 1927.
"DICKSON CONFEDERATE VETERAN SLAYS SELF - G. H. (Tim) Petty slashes throat and uses gun in ending life on Sunday: Neighbors find body.

G. H. Petty of near Dickson, known as Tim Petty and prominently related in this county, committed suicide on Sunday morning at his home with a daughter, Mrs. Sam Petty, three miles south of Dickson. The act was particularly revolting, Mr. Petty slashing his throat with a knife after having been left alone in the home by his daughter and her husband, and later apparently having taken a shotgun and blown away the upper part of the head. The body was found by neighbors soon after noon on Sunday, the ghastly find having been discovered near a fence against which the victim had evidently placed the gun to cause the tragic discharge.

Mr. Petty was 86 years of age, Confederate veteran and one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of Dickson County. He was born and reared in the Piney Community, south of Dickson, and served with the Confederate Army throughout the Civil War, having participated in several prominent battles of that mighty conflict. Following the close of war, he returned to his home community where he engaged in farming. He carried on this work until a few years ago, being forced to retire on account of ill health which is the only reason assigned for the tragedy.

Deceased was a devout member of the Primitive Baptist Church the greater part of his long and useful life, and beloved to many friends and relatives. He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Sam Petty of Piney, and Mrs. John Russell of Nashville; sons, Esquire J. T. Petty of Dickson, Joe Petty of Wingo, Kentucky, and Norman Petty of Nashville."
Obituray for Tim Gilbert Holland Petty son of William King Petty. Its kind of strange. is it a possibility that he might have had Alzhimer's or depression.
Obiturary;
Petty, G. H. "Tim" Confederate Veteran, slashed his throat and used a gun to kill himself on 6 March 1927; age 86; lived on Piney; family cemetery.
