2Obituary, By Douglas Petty: son of deceadant.
He was the son of Guy E. Petty (b. Feb. 11, 1890 in Robinson, IL.) and Zelma Paddick, daughter of Henry Paddick (b. 1863) and Frances Waggoner Paddick (b. 1867).

Guy O. Petty grew up poor in a farm family during the Depression headed by a single mother. His father died when Guy way three years old in 1926. He was captain of the basketball team at Chauncey school. After graduating from Lawrenceville High School where he was President of his Senior Class, he went to the University of Illinois, before joining the army during WWII. He was on the ship Leopoldville when it sank in the English Channel Christmas Eve 1944, and survived (barely) this second largest loss of life event of the war with injuries, that would disable him later in life. After the war, he graduated from the University of Illinois and became a vocational agriculture teacher in Carrollton, IL., where he married and had four children.

Funeral at the Fist Christian Church Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 10 am 1600 Wabash Ave, Mattoon, IL 61938 Following a graveside service, there will be a lunch at the church basement.

Friends, distant cousins, citizens of Lawrence Co. and others are invited, even encouraged to come, and genealogy talk is more than welcome.
