In May 1781: (A) William Petty went to court, made an oath that he had been a Virginian all his life, & that he had not received bounty land for his 3 years service. I have also that he was married 10 June 1829 and that his wife was Mildred PHELPS.

There has been satisfactory evidence contributed to the court that Mildred Petty was a parishioner of the United States at the rate of $80 annual, was a resident of the county and died in the county of Halifax in the state of Virginia, and died in the county in the year 1840 on the 19th of July. That she left three children whose names were James Petty, Zebidee Petty (sic) and Elizabeth Brown, who are of lawful age. Selected Final Pension Payment Vouchers VA. Halifax Co., Va., 30 Oct 1840, James Petty {signature}, Elizabeth Brown {x her mark}, and Zebedee Petty {signature} , children of Mildred Petty, late, five-year pensioner, widow of William Petty {former private who died 24 Oct 1829} , and resident of this county for 65 years and previous thereto of King & Queen County, appt. J.J. Fry attorney to collect arrears due from 3 Mar 1836 to 19 Jul 1840, the day of his death;

(This is small and hard to read) but he did verify the marriage date of his Sister Mildred Phelps. There was several pages, so I will just summarize. John Barksdale was the Justice of the Peace of Halifax and he did certify that John Phelps, who gave the deposition was a sutible person and entitled to a full confidence upon oathe. dated 27 June 1840 Signed Jno.. Service #W18747: Regarding Mildred Phelps and William Petty's marriage by Mildred's Brother John Phelps.
John Phelps stated that Mildred Phelps, his sister, was married to John Petty by Parson Hawkins Landrum in the year 1784 in the County of Halifax, State of Virginia & that they lived together until 1829 being the year in which he died. The wife Mildred remained a widow every since. Dated 27 June 1860

On the 9th day of Oct 1838 personally appeared before me John Mitrees? A justice of the peace for said county, Mildred Petty a resident of Virginia in the city of Halifax aged 84 years. She being first sworn in according to Law.
(She is asking for her pension of half pay for William Petty who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and she is his widow. He was intilld in the year 1776 as a private if the term of 3 years and pas placed in th company and commaded by Capt Edward Gaplanda(?)attatched to the Regiment Commanded by Col. Russell on the Contiental establishment. He was discharged in the fall of' '79 in Trenton, New Jersey, as stated in a delaration made by Wm Petty her late husband in order to obtain a pension under the Act of Congress paper 18 Mar 1818 in which the refers..
