William was the son of Elizabeth Hood who was the wife of Capt Luke Petty in South Carolina that fought in the Revolutionary War. Capt. Luke lost and arm in the battle of Wateree and died about 1782.
Andy Petty on Nov. 3, 2004 stated th the he was a descendant of this family. He and John Petty (post *****4651 stated that William is the father of Luke. Luke also had a brother named George and they lived in Bibb Co., GA from 1833 until Luke moved to Mississippi in 1842. George stayed behind and died sometime after 1860. Luke had a son anmed George and Luke's brother George, had 2 sons named Luke and William.
