"Died at his residence in Dickson County, Tennessee on the 29th of January, 1860, Mr. SOLOMON PETTY, in the 77th year of his age. He was born Union District, South Carolina, and was married in that country to JERUSHA DARWIN. Emigrated to Tennessee in 1814. Brother Petty made a profession of religion in the year 1833, and lived up to his profession till the time of his death and died resigned to the will of God. He last left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his exit from earth, and especially his breaved widow and children, eleven in number, and several grand children. Oh, that God would interpose in their salvation that they might say, with David, out father cannot come to us, but by the Grace of God we can go to Him. J.D. Petty."

Note: The J.D. Petty who signed this was James Darwin Petty, a son-in-law of Solomon. He was married to Solomon's daughter, Mahala Petty. James Darwin Petty was a son of Gabriel Petty and Sarah Darwin.
