Conferderate Widow's application Young Co., TX . #43037 dated 3 Apr 1870, in Teppah Co., MS. Jeptha was a private in Company A Baxter's Battalion, Conferderate Calvary. He inlisted 20 June 1862 at Orizaba, Ms and on Muster roll for July 1 to 31 Oct, 1862, shown preseent. June 1863 the company became CompanyH, 10th MS Cavalry and fro 30 Jun1764 he is shown Present. On duty with Capt. Camp. Was a Union Prisoner of War captured at Tuscumbia, AL. 3 Mar 1863 on which he is shown: date Mar 31, Place of residence Tippah Co., MS. Complexion dark hare black ,eyes dark. height 5'5 " age 26. He died 20 Mar 1905 in Jean, Denton County, Texas. Martha W. Ellis died 29 May 1930 in the home of her daughter LA Batterton. He had no midddle initial on his pension application. There was a marriage bond to Susan R. Brock, but no marriage took place. There was a marriage bond per "George R. and Patricia Jacks Weeks, Southern Ancestors Researchers of Jackson M.S. The bond was only good if a Minister of the Gospel, Judge of the State of MS., Justice of the Peace or any officer of said county, authorized to perform Marriges signed the certificate. The marriage never took place. Never signed or dated. It was only for on 22 Jan 1862. The marriage never took place.
