staunch Baptist, and founded a number of Baptist Churches in North Carolina before he moved to Clark County, Kentucky. When the Rev. William died, his property was not divided fairly and Elias of William's second marriage to Letitia Thornton, was not very happy and later left and returned to North Carolina. Elias apparently returned to Clark County in after his children were older, and died on March 05, 1828 Apparently no one knows why he went back and for how long before he died, as his second wife Rachel Worth remained in North Carolina. Rachel was a member of the Society of Friends, but most likely Elias was not, and even his son Watson Petty who married Lydia Macy did not become a Friend although Lydia was and remained so and brought up their children to be members of the Society.
