1Lois Jane Pettey.
I think that our gggGrandfather William is the second son of Capt. John Petty/Pettey and Ruth Evans from Philadelphia, Jefferson County NY. William was born about 1763 on Westminster, Windham Vermont. We do not know the name of his wife. About 1802 he moved to Henderson, Jefferson County NY (He is listed on the computer as one of the pioneers of Henderson NY. We also found him in a book at the Library in Watertown Jefferson County NY. He lived in Henderson until 1820-1830. At that time he moved along with his family to Ashtabula County Ohio. While in Jefferson County he had several children, some of them born in Vermont before he left that State. Joseph was the oldest and in the War of 1812, born about 1786/87, he served in the War of 1812. Next was Michael, he was born 1788 in Vermont, married Elizabeth Avery and had several children while in Henderson, Jefferson County NY or thereabouts. He moved to Cleveland and died there. Mary Hanna was born in 1790, probably in Vermont. John Pettey was born on the 15th of November 1798 in New York, He married Huldah Macomber (This is our GG Grandfather) They moved to Ashtabula County, Ohio and then about 1842/43 moved to Wisconsin. They settled in York township, Dane County and there he died on the 5th of April 1868. Abner is another brother born 1800, married Sally Fillmore and Moved to Ashtabula along with the rest of the family. He moved to Wisconsin also. Stopping in Pardeeville (1850 Federal Census) then on the Boscobel, WI (he came before the advent of the road. He moved from Boscobel and we cannot trace him. He might have gone with his son William W. (west) Nebraska ? Another brother William was born 1805/06 in Jefferson County, NY, he married Armina ? He also came to Ashtabula County, Ohio (a son is buried in the City Cemetery) Then he also came west to Wisconsin. First to Milwaukee and then to Boscobel. He died there. Philander the last child that we know was born 1809/10 in Jefferson County NY. He came to Ashtabula county, Ohio with the family. He married Esther Ann Howard. We do not know when he died, but he never left Ashtabula County, Ohio (Conneaut) William and ? also had two more females, but we do not know their names. One was born in 1794 and the other 1802. We suspect that the unknown female born in 1794 was named Nancy and married James Ghastin. We have an article that her son Joseph was a cousin to Abner Pettey, who was the first born son of John and Huldah Macomber Pettey. We may be spelling Macomber wrong (there are several spellings) Huldah's father also came to Ashtabula County, Ohio, but no records were kept of the Pettey's or the Macombers. We have no documentation that William is Mr. Petty son of Capt. John and Ruth Evans Pettey, but we are just speculating since the birth date and place a almost the same. You will see if you go to the history of Westminster, Windham Vt. John Petty spells his name Pettey. I hope I have been some help to you and that we can verify all this information. Thanks Everette H. Pettey, Son of Wilbur Pettey, Grandson of Henry "Dick" Pettey, Great Grandson of Abner Pettey and Great,Great Grandson of John Pettey and Great, Great, Great, Grandson of William Pettey, GGGGGrandson of Captain John Pettey, Jefferson County, NY.
