"From Chris Darwin: Once it was determined that John M. Darwin’s wife, Sally, was from the Blackburn family of Tennessee and Alabama, it confirmed that she was John’s first wife (and not the Elizabeth Darvin as suggested above), since the name Gideon is a very popular name for a son in Blackburn families and relates back to an ancestor, the Rev. Gideon H. Blackburn (1772-1838) who was notable for his mission schools. John and Sally’s son George C. Darwin (whose data I extracted from the 1850 Arkansas census, where he is listed with his wife Missouri, as: “Geo. C. Derwin 29 M Saddler Ala.”) is I now believe the earliest settler of the Arkansas branch of this family group and should be shown on my Jackson County AL chart for John M. Darwin in place of Bryant Darvin (which was an error on my part).

There was a very large attendance of people being present from all parts fo the stake....
GOOD WOMAN LAID TO REST; Funeral services held over for Remainins of Mrs Martha Lewis:
Mrs Martha Lewis, wife of President W. H. Lewis of the Benson stake, who died at her home in Lewiston a few days ago, was burried on thursday. Funeral services were held at the Lesiston meeting house at 11 a.m. on that day, Bishop Wm Waddoupt presiding .
Martha Lewis was a daughter of Robert Tower Petty, and Margaret Petty, and she was born in Benton County, Tennessee on November 8 1837. She came to Utah in 185 0, and came to Cache valley in early days, being among the first settlers of Richmond.
She was married about 50 years ago and was the mother of nine children, the oldest of whom is Mr. W.H. Hendreicks Jr of Richmond. There were 4 boys and 5 girls. One brother and 3 sisters survive her. They are L.B. Petty of Oxford, Mrs. Caroline Dudley, Mrs Almira Beckstead, and Mrs Margaret Davenport.
She was a good and true woman, one whose life was a noble example of Christian fortitude, patience, and charity, and her presence will be sadly missed in the community where she spent the major portion of her life.
