Older Records say Malends (or Mary Lena) Bevers was bon 12-16-1853 in Cass County, Texas. But if that is true, then she was only 1 year old when her son Samuel S. Petty was born.

1870 census gives her age as 30 which would make her born in 1840m and only 14 years old when S.S. Petty was born.

"Civil War: E. P. Petty, of Bastrop Texas, was killed at the battle of Pleasant Hill, LA, April 9, 1864. His letters to his family during the war have been published with this preface:

Elijah Parsons Petty was born in Dover, Stewart County, Tennessee on January 1, 1828, one of nine children born to John Hewing and Theora Bruton Petty. His father, who was of Scottish descent and had relatives in Glasgow, was born on December 10, 1795, and his mother on February 25, 1805.

Ella Pene Petty wife of John Thomas McDonald have a child named Mary Ella McDonald. Mary Ella marries Robert Lee Scallorn s/o Francis Marion Scallorn grandson of Stephen Scallorn and Mary McClure. ( This comes from Samuel McClure’s family, brother to Isabella (McClure) Petty.)

Margaret Elizabeth Pinner was born 19 Aug 1832 in Dover, Stewart, Tennessee. She died 5 Aug 1911 in San Antonio, Bexar, Texas. She was buried 19 Aug 1911 in Bastrop, Red Rock, Texas. She married Elijah Parsons Petty 3 Jan 1849 in Dover, Stewart, Tennessee.

[Possible explanation: Catherine Petty’s g g neice (Mary Ella McDonald) married (Robert Lee Scallon) the grandson Mary McClure, first cousin of Catherine’s husband Albert Petty]

When he died, he asked to be buried in the front yard of the plantation house. Our cousin Charlie Parker has visited the battlefield and spoke at length with the current owner -- it's a famous story. In the late 1800s when the family found his grave, they moved him back to Bastrop.

He was a lawyer in Bastrop Texas before the civil war. He was involved in politics as a Democrat, and being a strong sessionist, opposed Gov. Sam Houston who tried to keep Texas out of the CSA. E.P. Petty backed up his beliefs and joined."
