He abandoned his wife after the birth of the first child, returned long enough to get her pregnant again believed to have another family in Arkansas and Tennessee came to TN with others, was well dressed, educated, could preach a good sermon his children recieved word after his wife's death that he was in the western part of Tipton Co., TN dying and wanted to see them. They were not permitted to go.

"Mrs. Lola Petty, 62, of Quilto Road, is in John Gaston Hospital - rusult, according to deputies, of taking three kindsa of poison, in a suicide attempt.

Mrs. Petty took the triple poison at 3 pm yesterday at her home, Deputies Vaughn and Cox reported. A neighbor, William Evans, 25, took Mrs. Petty to St. Joseph Hospital and she was later removed to the city hospital. Her condition is reported satisfactory. Deputies quoted her as saying she was grieving over her daughter, Marguerite Petty Woodard. Mrs. Woodard died May 3, 1944, after she was struck by her husband and fell against a curbing at the Firestone Plant where she was employed, according to the court records. Her husband, Paul Woodard, pleaded guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter May 22, 1944 and was sentenced to more than five years in the penitentiary.

2Theresa Hazlerig.
Lola Belle Hewett Petty of Memphis, formerly of Tipton County, celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday. Approxiamately 50 relatives attended her birthday celebration at a nursing home in Memphis, where she makes her home. Three of her nine children are still living. They are Pauline Petty Lee, Roy Petty, and Ben Petty. She also has 43 grandchildren, 67 great-grand children, 31 great great grand children and one great-great-great grandchild. "Thomas PETTY, son of Thomas PETTY and Katharine MORRIS, born May 1664, Essex (Old Rappahannock) Co., Virginia, died Essex Co., Va. in 1720 (Will pro May 17, 1720). He was Capt. of the Colonial Militia (Dragoon), member of the Council of James City, Va. and in 1714 was sheriff of King and Queen Co., Va. He married Rachael WILSON. His will mentions wife Rachael and six children: George, Thomas, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Rachael and Mary."
