And in Chatham County, N.C. Court Minutes,1781-1785, Vol.2 Poe Publishers: Page 17A, The following persons summoned to lay of side the road from the Red Field Ford to the horse penlick spring . Young'r Neel and others.Younger evidently supplied some supplies to the colonial troops. In DAR #217654 application it states : (BOOK-IX-4-3, "An account of certificates delivered into the treasurer's office exchanged pursuant to act of the assembly passed in Dec.1789. To whom originally issued delivered into the comptroller's office by Jn. Armstrong by Mebane andNichols...No. 5462..To whom granted : Younger Neal...Date Oct. 1783..Sum:13:10."
"Note: Here is some information that I received from a Neal researcher, Dorothy Conner.Lee Neal stated in the 'History of NW Arkansas,1884,Goodspeed; "His great-grandparents (Younger Neal Sr) were French and left their native land on account of the religous intolerance there.( Only the one great-grandparent could have come from France as Younger Neal's wife was Sarah Petty). the daughter of James and Martha Petty.
Younger Neal was in Chatham County N.C. by 1781 as he is listed in Chatham County ,N.C. Deeds, 1770-1782, Vol.1, Poe Publishers. On Page 416-February 13,1781-Alexander Clarke and Pheby his wife to James Howard 4700pds, 350 acres- all that tract or parcel of land whereon Simon Poe formerly lived, Joins Mrs. Hannah Poe ,William Poe Jr., and the land formerly belonging to Morten and Richard Kennon and the land whereon Younger Neil now lives.
There is an inventory of the estate of Younger Neal in The Chatham County, N.C. Wills, tec. 1782-1794 -tract of land 230 acres and one of 100 acres. Among the purchasers were Sarah Neal and Stephen Neal. In Chatham County, N.C.Court Minutes, 1781-1785, Vol.2 Page 86 A., Administration of the estate of Younger Neill.. Granted to Sarah Neill. She giving James Stewart Sr., and James Stewart Jr., Security upon there turned an inventory and sale granted. And on Page 96 B., Account Sales of the estate Younger Neill and John Strawan returned into court.Book K , page 29,1797: gives William Neale , James Neale, Younger Neale, and William Neale as guardians for Thrasley, Stephen, and Elizabeth Neale, heirs of Younger Neale,dec'd. (Please note the variety of ways that Neal was spelled in the various records.)
Sarah Neil in November 1791 is listed in the Chatham County, N.C.Court Minuets 1790-1792, page 57, is listed a deed from James Stewart toSarah Neil proved by Phillip Meroney. In Chatham County, Book N, page164: 1803 , gives William Neil, James Neil and Emsley George as heirs at law of the late Sarah Neil in a deed of land to Wm. Headen. So Sarah died before 1803. "Younger Neal Jr. served as Sheriff of Chatham County (NC). The family moved to Hickman Co, TN in 1826...he died in 1843 in Hickman County. Luraney moved with the family to Arkansas. She lived with their son, Palmer Neal...family Bible gives her date of death as 3-27-1867 in Crawford Co, AR."Note 2nd husband of Luraney S Harrington Younger was a child of Younger Neal Sr. and Sarah (Petty) Neal. He married Lurany Harrington. She was from two properous and well known families, the Harrington's and the Harmon's.There is a deed in Chatham County, N.C. Book Y, page 142, dated 18th March , 1822. "James McCaleb of the state of Tennessee, Hickman County, to Younger Neal of the state of North Carolina of Chatham County--300 dollars. Tract of land in Chatham County, on the waters of Long Branch beginning at a Red Oak the corner of William Hills Land that divides sd. Hill and William Bryans lines across the Long Brach to the South of the Meadow Branch. He died in 1843 in Hickman County. Lurany moved with the family to Arkansas. She lived with their son , Palmer Neal, in the 1850 Crawford County census. AA family bible records gives the date of her death as March 27,1867 in Crawford County, Arkansas.NOTE: by JPI have that Lurany Harrington was b.1790 and Younger Neal Sr. b. abt 1745 and deceased by July 1794."
As a source used an email from as from R Cecil Shipley posted at Hubert Petty site on myfamily.com. She stated that Younger Neal Sr. b. 1745 in Chatham County d. before 7/1/1794 was married to Sarah Petty, daughter of James. living Chatham Co. William Neal is appointed by the Court, guardian to Younger Neal, Thackley Neal, Stephen Neal, orphans of Younger Neal, Dec'd, who enters into separate bonds with Richard Straughan, Isiah Strayhan, in the sum of 10 pounds, each.4Court Record, Chatham Co., N.C.
