In 1857 Mr. Petty married Miss Orpa Stillwell, daughter of Rev. Henry C. Stillwell, of Lone Oak, Hunt County, Texas. In 1866 Mrs. Petty was taken away by death, and for several years Mr. Petty remained a widower, when, in 1873, he married Miss Lizzie Blackwood. There are two children now in the Petty family, Henry and Mary.

Mrs. Lizzie (Blackwood) Petty is the daughter of Curtiss Blackwood, who was born October 8, 1808, in Cumberland county, Kentucky. His parents were Richard and Sallie (Stuart) Blackwood, the former of who served in the War of 1812 , and died in 1815. Curtiss was reared by a farmer of Kentucky, Robert Allen—until twenty-one years of age, when he commended life for himself with no other capital than his strong arms and willing heart. In 1831 he married Elizabeth Tweedy, daughter of James Tweedy, of London, England. In 1846 Mrs. Blackwell was called away, and a year later Mr. Blackwood married Mrs. Phebe Murphy, widow of Foster Murphy, and daughter of Richard Walthal. In 1856 Curtiss moved his family to Texas, and engaged in the grocery business. In 1876 Mrs. Blackwood died, leaving five children, whose names are James E., Martha, Mary J., Hannah E. and Lizzie. Mr. Blackwood now has his home with his son-in-law Rev. W. P. Petty.

Edward Carloss, the maternal grandfather of Wm. P. Petty, was also an early settler in North Carolina. Winshop [sic] S. Petty, father of William P., was born in Chatham county, North Carolina, as was also his wife, Mary Carloss. He died in Texas in 1881, his wife having previously been taken away at the age of seventy-one.

Petty was born in Chatham county, North Carolina, January 19, 1832 and at the age of three was taken by his parents to Tennessee, where he received his preliminary education, which was supplemented by a courses through Euclid College, north Mississippi, from which he graduated with high honors in 1853, and at one began teaching. In 1855, he entered the Baptist ministry, and located at Jacinto, Mississippi, but on Christmas-day, the same year, came to Texas.

"Guy Lee Petty during a personal interview gave his birth date, 1 Feb 1908 and place- Mansville, Oklahoma. He stated that he was a Baptist. He said he was named Guy after his uncle on his Mother's side and named him Lee after my uncl on "my" daddy's side. When the transcript was taken, he said he live in Smithville, but the Baptist church that he went to was in Watson. The old baptist church where he was baptised was torn down and there is no church there any more.".
"Document from General Services Administration in posssession of Guy Petty, dated 16 Nov 1971 sated that Petty is listed in sevier County, Arkansas and was established May 20, 1877, and discontinued 31 May 1902. ".

Guy Lee Petty stated that Oscar Andrew Petty his brother was born July 28, 1897 but he didn't have his death certificate, but he died in 1959 or 1960 in Dallas, Texas. He stated that Oscar's wife was Alma Sutersburg, but he didn't know her age, but in 1958 she was dead.

Guy said thet Alma and Oscar had 7 or 8 kids-oldest one was Oscar Petty Jr., Rosemary, Bobby, Joe, and Betty, and same and Larry. He didn't know their birth dates.
