William Petty – Private, Capt. Bostwick’s Co., Col. Armstrong’s North Carolina Regiment.
William Petty age 68, or Madison Co., Alabama, applied for a pension in Alabama.
He stated that he was born March 13th, 1764 in Fauguier or Stafford Co, Virginia, as recorded in the family bible. He entered the service under Genl. Rutherford, in Capt. Absolom Bostwick’s Co., in Surry Co., North Carolina, and Camden, South Carolina.
He lived in Surry Co., N.C. when he entered the service. He moved to Wilkes Co., N.C. at the end of the War, and remained there until 1817 when hemoved to Madison County, Alabama.
On Mary 30th, 1835, Lucy Petty of Madison Co., Alabama, identified herself as the widow of William Petty. Her statement was witnessed by Daniel H. Petty.

Was living in Wilkes Co., N.C, in 1810. They went to Madison Co., Alabama in 1814/15.
" on the side of the road near Blutcher's Ford, Madison Co., Alabama, William and Lucretia Wright (listed as Susy in the Bible record) Pettey's bombstone inscriptions provided the record of their births and deaths as follows: 'In memory of William Pettey born 13 Mar 1764, died 26 Sept. 1834. In the memory of Lucy Pettey, born 7 July 1765, died 16 Aug 1842.

William Petty age 68, or Madison Co., Alabama, applied for a pension in Alabama. He stated that he was born March 13th, 1764 in Fauguier or Stafford Co, Virginia, as recorded in the family bible. [Mrs. John R. (Betty Anderson) Bridgewater, Past President of the Coffee County Historical Society and Editor of Coffee County Historical publications, has done extensive research of the Hickerson Family in Coffee County. When she was President of the Society in 1981-82, the Corresponding Secretary was Mrs. Jack (Flora Hickerson) Gang who was a direct descendant of the above referenced John Hickerson. It is probable that Flora furnished the information (or the Bible?) to Betty Bridgewater. When Flora Gang died of Alzheimer's, a niece (unknown) from Nashville removed the contents of Flora's home in Manchester.].

[Mrs. John R. (Betty Anderson) Bridgewater, Past President of the Coffee County Historical Society and Editor of Coffee County Historical publications, has done extensive research of the Hickerson Family in Coffee County. When she was President of the Society in 1981-82, the Corresponding Secretary was Mrs. Jack (Flora Hickerson) Gang who was a direct descendant of the above referenced John Hickerson. It is probable that Flora furnished the information (or the Bible?) to Betty Bridgewater. When Flora Gang died of Alzheimer's, a niece (unknown) from Nashville removed the contents of Flora's home in Manchester.].

William Petty age 68, or Madison Co., Alabama, applied for a pension in Alabama.
He stated that he was born March 13th, 1764 in Fauguier or Stafford Co, Virginia, as recorded in the family bible. He entered the service under Genl. Rutherford, in Capt. Absolom Bostwick’s Co., in Surry Co., North Carolina, and Camden, South Carolina.
He lived in Surry Co., N.C. when he entered the service. He moved to Wilkes Co., N.C. at the end of the War, and remained there until 1817 when hemoved to Madison County, Alabama.
On Mary 30th, 1835, Lucy Petty of Madison Co., Alabama, identified herself as the widow of William Petty. Her statement was witnessed by Daniel H. Petty.

In 1857 Mr. Petty married Miss Orpa Stillwell, daughter of Rev. Henry C. Stillwell, of Lone Oak, Hunt County, Texas. In 1866 Mrs. Petty was taken away by death, and for several years Mr. Petty remained a widower, when, in 1873, he married Miss Lizzie Blackwood. There are two children now in the Petty family, Henry and Mary.

Mrs. Lizzie (Blackwood) Petty is the daughter of Curtiss Blackwood, who was born October 8, 1808, in Cumberland county, Kentucky. His parents were Richard and Sallie (Stuart) Blackwood, the former of who served in the War of 1812 , and died in 1815. Curtiss was reared by a farmer of Kentucky, Robert Allen—until twenty-one years of age, when he commended life for himself with no other capital than his strong arms and willing heart. In 1831 he married Elizabeth Tweedy, daughter of James Tweedy, of London, England. In 1846 Mrs. Blackwell was called away, and a year later Mr. Blackwood married Mrs. Phebe Murphy, widow of Foster Murphy, and daughter of Richard Walthal. In 1856 Curtiss moved his family to Texas, and engaged in the grocery business. In 1876 Mrs. Blackwood died, leaving five children, whose names are James E., Martha, Mary J., Hannah E. and Lizzie. Mr. Blackwood now has his home with his son-in-law Rev. W. P. Petty.
