Gabrial Petty 21221000100001210011 - that's twelve children

Note from researcher: 2nd marriage for Gabrial Petty, also in Dickson Co. TN, Sarah Edwards 23 Feb 1832. Barbara's files she had him buried in the Monk Cemetery in Hickman Co. I visited the sight while in Hickman Co. and find no prof of this bureral altho some in Hickman seem to think he is there. I did find however he probally died abt 1848 as I find his widow in Madison Co. in 1850 and Humphreys Co. in 1860. They also seemed to have a family of their own—see the census records found. While not 100% sure this is her, from the information I got in Hickman and Dickson Co, this has to be, as she nor he are there in 1850. And the 1840 Census shows Gaberial with young children.

Note: John Amous Petty m. Nancy Edward, daughter of Alfred and Sally Edwards. So did Gabriel marry the widow Sally Edwards?

" The family of Sarah (who was known as Sallie) and Gabriel Petty remained in Union Co., SC, for about ten years until about 1814 when they made the decision to follow in the footsteps of Jane and Thomas Petty to Tennessee. On the 6 Jan 1820, Thomas Petty was happy to decrease his land holding by selling off 525 acres of his original 1808 purchase to his brother Gabriel:

Sallie (Darwin) Petty must have died between 1824 (when her last recorded child was born) and 1830 when she fails to be shown on the Tennessee census. Gabriel married again in February 1832 to Sally Edwards in Dickson Co. and I have no further information on his second wife or family. Gabriel is last mentioned in a Dickson Co. court record dated 5 July 1845 in reference to the estate of his son, George Cowen Petty, but fails to appear on the 1850 census, so likewise his death can only be approximated to the period 1845-1850."
lists mg place of Sarah and Gabriel as York Co., SC
She also lists one additional child: Elisha b. 1826 (died in infancy).

7Barbara McGee.
Jesse Patty has been shown by many as the father of three illegitimate sons by Sarah West. I enlisted the aid of William C. Wooldridge, Board member of the Library of Virginia and the author of the two volume book The Wooldridge Family to help me search for court records. The court record supported my assertion that Sarah West's sons were apprentices of Jesse Patey not sons of Jesse Patey.

8Patty Wooldridge.
"I now believe that the three Patty men: Obediah in McMinn County; and Josiah and Zorobabel in Roane County, in the early 1800s, are either the sons of Sarah west and an unknown West father or they are not Sarah sons but sons of yet unknown Patty ancestors but who? It appears to me that Zorobable might be the son of James Patty if he is the same Zorobable who is listed in Quaker Records in East Tennessee. It is likely that Obediah and Josiah are related as they appear in land records, Josiah as surveyor and Obediah as purchaser, plus their children's names are similar while Zorobable's are dissimilar.

Obed Patty appears in Cherokee County SC El Bethal Baptist Church records; July 1803 Monthly Meeting ".....Received by experience and Baptism, Brothers Nathaniel Guitton, John Bird and Obed Patty and Sister Lydia Moorhead." Then 14 Aug 1805 Monthly Meeting; "......Then appointed our delegates to the Association our Brethren Obed Patty, Isiah Parker on falyer [failure] of either Joseph Guiton." I don't think that there is confusion on the name between Petty and Patty as there are both on these church records and they are distinctively (at least from what I can read from the poor film.)

Obed Patty is next in Knox County Tennessee as a licensed preacher at Beaver Ridge Baptist Church and then in McMinn County Tennessee where he was one of the founders of Chestua Baptist Church in 1825. He died in McMinn County in 1843."
