During Rev. War, several of her negroe slaves were taken captive by Tories. She went to the British camp and demanded to see Gen. Cornwallis. When the sentinel refused to let her pass, she laid a whip to her horse and sprang past then rode up to the Gen.'s tent and demanded her property. The Gen. asked her to point it out, which she did and sent an armed escort home with her saying such a brave woman should be rewarded.

Item: Regarding the Death of Isabelle Petty Clack: "Mrs Isabella (Petty) Clack was born in Barren Co, KY., March 13, 1804 and died in Cooke County, Texas, June 23, 1884. Her death was a Christian t r iuph; her hop never weakened, and her faith in Christ to the last was stronger thatn death. She had been a consistent and devoted Baptist for sixty years in her native county of (Barren), Kentucky, but last january came to Texas, suffering with cancer on the face with which she has been afflicted for years. Her sufferings were great, but she never murmured. She was the daughter of rev. Ralph Petty, who was for 46 years a Baptist preacher in Kentucky and was the widow of W.W.Clack who died in Barren County KY in 1853. (Som months before two of her grandsons, Albert and Jamie Clack died of typhoid fever in Cooke County, Texas.) Mrs Clack leaves five children and nemerous friends to mourn her departure.

""1999 -- I saw their graves when I was a child & went with my mother to clean the lot. Also on this lot are Jushua & Martha Ann, Eugene & Ann & their son Lee who died young. There is a tall monument & permanent markers at each of these graves at West Hill Cem., Sherman, TX. Another lot contains Lut & Lell and my parents and Maude Ellen buried there. Also Frank is buried by his first wife on the McCollum lot in West Hill. William Eugene & Christian Anne Petty had one son Albert Lee who died at age 23 unmd. Eugene died of yellow fever when Lee was 1 yr old."."
Fought in Civil War but could find no military record of his service. Farm was destroyed in the Civil War. He served 2 terms as a judge in Independence, MO before moving to Sherman, TX. In the 1880 census, he was running a boarding house. He was a Mason. John and his wife are buried in the Petty lot without markers. Was listed in 1880 Independence, Missouri Census w/parents -- he was running a boarding house.
