"Well folks, we still have to find Catherine Petty's ancestry on her Harrington side: Look on my site at www.pettygenealogy.com and go to rin 190 (Charles C. Harrington) and Rin # 191 Patience Brazeel. (There are other spellings but I am using the original in Books for now.)

Charles Harrington died in Logan County in 1808. I have his will.
Note on the family group sheet Nancy Harrington daughter of Charles and Patience. Temple records said she marrid a Gorum, Catherine named her as her sister "Nancy Gorum". So here we have some Gorum's in Logan County where our Charles died. I could never find them in Dover, Stewart Co., TN. where Lydia (Harrington) Petty & George Petty died. So it looks like some of the family were in Logan County with Lydia's parents.

Most of the children that I have on my list are unproven. The ones who have spouses by them are found either in Temple Records from Nauvoo which Catherine did, or they have been searched and seem good. The others where there is no information are just place savers, and folks who were pretty good researchers, but now dead, had them listed as children of Charles Harrington and Patience-with no references. So, look but don't engrave those names into family records yet.

You will notice that there are several Harrington Names in the Logan Misc. files. Charles is ours, Patience is ours (we don't have her will); now there is a Giles, John, Samuel and Whitmell listed. I have seen a Whitmell in Stewart Co., TN records along with George and Lydia (Harrington) Petty.

Sometimes Court Cases reveal a lot about people, and it looks like there are quite a few to examine. Wills also reveal a lot of things. So, I'm looking forward to seeing if any of us can get more information on this family. "

2Family Letters, J. Stepen Jones.
He was a descendant (as I am) of Catherine Petty. He was putting a new memorial stone on Catherine's grave.

--the Patriarchal Blessings of both Albert and Catherine are in the Church and Historical records. Hyrum Smith required basic information on each individual to whom blessings were given at the time. Albert and Catherine would have been present to give the information to Hyrum Smith the Patriarch on May 14, 1843, as was then required. So the information would have been given by Albert and Catherine at the time. These documents are perhaps as close to original information that is now available. This morning, I went to the Church Historian's Office and obtained a copy of the original handwritten blessings given to both Albert and Catherine. Catherine's and Albert's Blessings do list at the beginning the essential information that I am looking for. Catherine's date of birth was listed as 16 February 1803 - Stewart, Co., Tennessee on that document. This will be the date that I will put on her headstone, with the original spelling of Petty. The headstone will read:J. Steven Jones. Sent to me Barbara McGee, May 21, 2010

The original headstone made by her son, William George Petty. It does have her name on it and it does look like William George's headstone. Both with the "ey" spelling. ( comment by Trent Pettey)

(Added bu Karen Platt:) The photo of Catherine Pettey's grave is correct. She was buried in Sterling in the old cemetery on the west of the highway, up on the hill. She has not been moved anywhere. That was her original burial spot. She was living with her son at the time of her death. Remember that Albert Petty died earlier and after his death, the family separated. Catherine went to live with her son in Manti and the second wife, Lucinda Haggerty went to live with Albert Petty, the son, in Deseret in Millard County. She is buried there and her side of the family have put in a nice headstone. Catherine died in Sanpete County. The headstone was made by William George. My understanding is that he made his also. We found Catherine's headstone about 15 years ago. The person that showed us where she was buried was a local historian and knew the family well. I have her picture but can't remember her name. I don't think she is still living. We have talked about replacing Catherine's headstone and we should do it. Vaughan Petty's family were going to do it several years ago, but I don't think the plans were ever carried out. We would be willing to contribute $$$ if anyone wants to start a fund. I think it should be a family project. Karen Platt
